DOT Sand

Florida DOT-approved sand graded to state Department of Transportation specifications. The go-to choice for paver base prep, road shoulder work, and any project where the spec calls for “DOT sand.” Clean, consistent, and screened to a uniform particle size that compacts well under hardscape.
Premium Masonry Sand
$84 per cubic yard
Fine-grained, washed sand specifically blended for mortar mixing in brick, block, and stone masonry work. Free of organic matter and consistent in particle size for predictable mortar performance. Masons across Palm Beach County request this grade for veneer walls, fire pits, and pool deck stonework.
Gray Fine Screen Concrete Sand
$77 per cubic yard
Fine-grained concrete sand with a gray tint, screened for use in concrete mixes, mortar, and paver joint filling. Slightly finer particle than coarse concrete sand — works well where you need flow into tight joints or smooth surface finish. A cost-effective alternative to premium masonry sand for non-structural work.
Fine Concrete Screenings
$84 per cubic yard
The fine fraction left from screening crushed concrete or aggregate. Self-compacting and dense, making it an excellent base material under pavers, concrete pads, and shed foundations. Once compacted and wetted, it locks together almost like a soft concrete. Popular for paver base in walkways and patios.
Coarse Concrete Screenings
$64 per cubic yard
The coarser fraction of concrete screenings, with larger particle size than the fine grade. Used as a sub-base under driveways, building pads, and heavier-duty paver installations where you need more drainage and load distribution. Among our most affordable construction sand options.
Green Sand
$131 per cubic yard
A naturally-occurring mineral sand (glauconite) used primarily as a slow-release soil amendment. Adds potassium, iron, and trace minerals to garden beds and lawns over time. Popular with serious vegetable gardeners, organic landscapers, and orchid growers across Palm Beach County. Distinctive olive-green color.
How Much Sand Do You Need?
Sand is sold and delivered by the cubic yard. The amount you need depends on the project type and base depth. Here’s a quick reference to help you estimate before you call:
Paver patios & walkways (1″ sand layer over compacted base): Approximately 1 cubic yard covers 320 square feet at 1″ deep. A typical 200 sq ft paver patio needs roughly 0.6–1 cubic yard of bedding sand.
Driveway paver base (4–6″ compacted sub-base + 1″ bedding): A 400 sq ft driveway typically uses 5–7 cubic yards of base material total. Use coarse concrete screenings or DOT sand for the sub-base, masonry or fine concrete sand for the bedding layer.
Concrete pad sub-base (2–4″ compacted sand): A 10×10 ft shed pad with 3″ of sand under it needs about 1 cubic yard. A 20×20 ft concrete patio pad with 3″ of sand needs 3.7 cubic yards.
Masonry & mortar work: Varies widely by project. A typical bag of mortar requires about 0.5–1 cubic foot of sand. Most residential masonry jobs (small retaining walls, fire pits, BBQ surrounds) order 1–2 cubic yards.
Our trailer holds approximately 2–3 cubic yards of sand per load. Sand is roughly as dense as decorative rock and significantly denser than mulch, so loads are limited by weight. Most residential paver and concrete jobs fit in 1–3 loads, which we can run back-to-back the same day with a discounted delivery fee on additional runs.

Why Bulk Delivery Beats Bagged Sand
Bagged sand at the big box store costs 3–4x more per cubic yard. A 50-lb bag of paver sand runs $5–$7, and you need roughly 40 bags to equal one cubic yard. That’s $200–$280 per yard just for the material — before you count the time loading 2,000 pounds of sand into your car, the gas, the trips back and forth, and cutting open and dumping every bag. How much does sand delivery cost?
You pay for the sand itself (per cubic yard at the prices shown above, ranging from $64 for coarse concrete screenings to $131 for green sand) plus a flat delivery fee based on distance from the supplier to your property. Delivery fees within Palm Beach County typically run $75–$150. Call or text with the sand type, approximate quantity, and your delivery address and we’ll quote the all-in price before you commit.
Which sand do I need for a paver patio?
For most residential paver patios you need two layers: a compacted sub-base (coarse concrete screenings or DOT sand work well at 4–6″ deep), then a 1″ leveling layer of bedding sand directly under the pavers (premium masonry sand or fine concrete sand). After the pavers are set, you’ll also need polymeric joint sand to fill between them — that’s a specialty product sold in bags, not by the yard.
How much sand fits in one load?
Our 7×12 dump trailer holds approximately 2–3 cubic yards of sand per load. Sand is dense, so loads are limited by weight rather than volume. Most residential paver and masonry jobs fit in 1–3 loads. For larger projects (long driveways, large concrete pads, commercial work), we run consecutive loads the same day with a discounted delivery fee on additional runs.
What’s the difference between masonry sand and concrete sand?
Masonry sand has a finer, more uniform particle size and is washed clean of fines — it’s used for mortar mixing in brick, block, and stone work. Concrete sand (especially the coarse grade) has a wider range of particle sizes including some larger grit, which helps it bond with cement and aggregate in concrete mixes. Fine concrete sand and gray fine screen concrete sand sit between the two — they work for both mortar joints in paver work and finer concrete applications.
Can you dump the sand directly in my backyard?
In most cases, yes. Our dump trailer is 7 feet wide and 12 feet long — compact enough to fit through most side yard gates and access paths. If there’s a clear path from the driveway to the backyard with no tight corners, low-hanging branches, or gates narrower than 8 feet, we can back in and place the sand as close to your work area as possible. Send us a photo of the access path before scheduling and we’ll confirm.
Do you deliver sand to active job sites for contractors?
Yes — we work with hardscape, masonry, and concrete contractors across Palm Beach County for ongoing job-site delivery.
