How Much Rock Do You Need?
Rock and gravel are sold and delivered by the cubic yard. Coverage depends on the depth you’re spreading it. Here’s a quick reference to help you estimate what your project needs before you call:
Standard 2″ depth (decorative ground cover): 1 cubic yard covers approximately 160 square feet. Most front yard landscape beds need 1–3 cubic yards.
3″ depth (recommended for full coverage): 1 cubic yard covers approximately 110 square feet. This is the depth where you stop seeing dirt or weed barrier through the rock. Most residential rock projects use this depth.
4″ depth (heavy-traffic or driveway base): 1 cubic yard covers approximately 80 square feet. Used for gravel driveways, walkways, and high-traffic zones.
French drains & drainage projects: Most French drains require 6–12″ of drain rock surrounding the perforated pipe. A typical 50-foot residential French drain uses 2–4 cubic yards of #57 or 1-1/4″ drain rock.
Our trailer holds approximately 2–3 cubic yards of decorative rock per load. Rock is much heavier than mulch, so loads are smaller. Most residential decorative rock jobs fit in 1–2 trips. Larger projects (driveways, dry creek beds, drainage installs) often need 3+ loads, which we run back-to-back the same day with a discounted delivery fee on additional runs.

Why Bulk Delivery Beats Bagged Rock
Rock by the bag costs 3–5x more per cubic yard. A 0.5 cubic foot bag of decorative rock at a big box store runs $5–$10. You need 54 bags to equal one cubic yard — that’s $270–$540 per yard just for the material. Beyond the cost, you’re loading hundreds of pounds of rock into your car, hauling it home, and lugging bag after bag to your beds. For any project larger than a small accent area, bulk delivery is dramatically cheaper and faster.

Our compact 7×12 dump trailer fits through side gates, narrow driveways, and behind houses — meaning we can place the rock as close to the bed area as possible. How much does decorative rock delivery cost?
You pay for the rock itself (per cubic yard at the prices shown above) plus a flat delivery fee based on distance from the supplier to your property. Delivery fees within Palm Beach County typically run $75–$150. Call or text with the rock type, approximate quantity, and your delivery address and we’ll quote the all-in price before you commit.
How much rock fits in one load?
Our 7×12 dump trailer holds approximately 2–3 cubic yards of decorative rock per load. Rock is significantly heavier than mulch, so loads are smaller. For larger projects we run consecutive loads the same day with a discounted delivery fee on additional runs. Most residential decorative rock projects (front bed refresh, accent areas, pool surround) fit in 1–2 loads.
Can you dump the rock in my backyard?
In most cases, yes. Our dump trailer is 7 feet wide and 12 feet long — compact enough to fit through most side yard gates and access paths. If there’s a clear path from the driveway to the backyard with no tight corners, low-hanging branches, or gates narrower than 8 feet, we can back in and place the rock as close to where it’s going as possible. Send us a photo of the access path before scheduling and we’ll confirm.
Do I need landscape fabric under the rock?
For decorative rock beds, yes — a quality landscape fabric underneath prevents weeds from pushing up through the rock and keeps the rock from gradually mixing into the soil below. For French drains and drainage applications, you typically want a non-woven drainage fabric (sometimes called geotextile) around the entire trench. We don’t install fabric, but we can recommend it as part of your project plan when you call to set up delivery.
Can you remove old rock or mulch and deliver new rock in the same trip?
Yes — it’s a common pairing. We haul away the old rock, mulch, weed barrier fabric, and bed debris first, then return with the new material. Old material removal is handled through our yard waste removal service. One crew, one call — both jobs handled together so your beds are ready for the fresh layer.
